A tire pressure light warns drivers about how much air the tire lost. When air pressure drops too low, many problems could occur. For one, driving on an underinflated tire may ruin the treads or cause a blowout. Minor issues, such as poor fuel economy, shouldn’t be overlooked, either.
A punctured tire will lose air, leading to the dashboard warning light becoming engaged. Running over a nail or screw could puncture and ruin a tire. That said, a car’s tires will lose a small amount of air pressure each month regardless of the tires’ condition. Checking the air pressure regularly allows drivers to put air into the tires when needed.
Air pressure may decrease when extreme weather rolls in since temperatures affect tire pressure. And then there’s the “false alarm” possibility. The air pressure light could illuminate in error.
