This past Friday, we learned that Mazda is announcing some changes to pricing and packaging for the 2016.6 CX-5. The goal of the changes is to add value and reduce the complexity in the trim level structure of the company's best-selling compact crossover.

One major change to the 2016.5 CX-5 is the inclusion of a backup camera as standard equipment on all models with Mazda's SKYACTIV-drive six-speed automatic transmission. The backup camera was previously only available as part of the Rear View Camera Package on the Sport trim level.

Another alteration is the availability of a 184-horsepower, 2.5-liter SKYACTIV-G engine for Touring and Grand Touring models, in addition to the Sport trim level.

Robert Davis, Senior VP of U.S. Operations, MNAO commented on the changes, saying: "The added content in 2016.5 CX-5 reflects our customers' tastes toward premium features in a compelling, fun-to-drive, stylish crossover. CX-5 buyers are educated, upwardly mobile, active-lifestyle individuals. With these updates, we aim to provide them with an even greater ownership experience."

Mid-model year CX-5 will go on sale in January.
