Mazda sales for the month of May brought an impressive increase of 19 percent. This is an important achievement as it shows promising odds of the brand attaining its goal of selling 300,000 vehicles in the Unites States market this year. With new systems and technologies in place, along with some new leadership, Mazda has quickly reshaped its position in the market for 2013.
CEO of Mazda North American Operations, Jim O'Sullivan, is receiving quite a bit of praise for his efforts to build the brands popularity. Michael MacDonald, owner of two Mazda dealerships in the Salt Lake City area and former chairman of the brand's dealer council, proclaims, "I give Jim a lot of credit. He's been working on setting up Mazda for the last three years, with the agency, the new personnel and the reductions in personnel, and the plan is being executed now, and it's starting to look pretty good based on the results."1
Vehicles offering Mazda's new, efficient SKYACTIV technologies, including the new Mazda CX-5 and redesigned Mazda6, made up nearly seventy five percent of the brand's sales volume last month. That's good news, seeing how Mazda invested billions in its SKYACTIV initiative, producing lightweight platforms and fuel-efficient powertrains. While many automakers are working on alternative fuel options, Mazda set out to improve their existing gasoline platforms and it appears that the decision is paying off.
